This week on North of Normal, Amanda McKeen sits down with Jean McKenna, a lifelong Littleton local whose name is inseparable from The Coffee Pot. For 45 years, Jean helped turn a little Main Street restaurant into something much bigger than a place to eat. It became a gathering place where generations of customers were greeted by name, teased, hugged, listened to, and made to feel like they belonged.
Jean shares how she and her husband Jim built the Coffee Pot together, the people who became part of their extended family along the way, and the painful decision to finally let it go. She also opens up about what came afterward, including how difficult it was to lose the place that had given her such a strong sense of purpose and connection. Through plenty of laughter, a few tears, and stories only Jean could tell, the conversation becomes about much more than one beloved diner. It’s about what it means to truly know your neighbors, to invest in people, and to build a life around making others feel seen, remembered, and loved.
